It’s finally happening, you guys!

Director David Slade is taking his young adult franchise film experience (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and putting it to good use to kick off another adaptation, Matched. The YA novel from author Ally Condie was previously acquired by Disney, who set Michelle and Kieran Mulroney (Sherlock Holmes:A Game of Shadows) to pen the script. The book is the first in a trilogy that centers on a young girl living in an uber-controlling society and her rebellious decision to reject an arranged romance and follow her own heart. HeatVision reports that Disney thinks Slade is their perfect match for this project, which comes with built-in follow up films Crossed and Reached should the first picture be successful. Slade only directed one of the Twilight films, but that was enough to win him the job for Matched. The director previously brought the pedophile-centric Hard Candy to the screen with Ellen Page and just wrapped up directing the pilot for NBC’s Hannibal series. He’s no stranger to hard edges, so it will be interesting to see what he does with Matched.

Hot on the heels of the popular Hunger Games film, Hollywood Crush gives readers a list of other YA books in various stages of production for the big screen, including Ally Condie’s MATCHED!

What is the latest update on a MATCHED movie? Michele and Kieran Mulroney are signed on as the script writers and Adam Shankman has tweeted that his company will be producing it. Hopefully we’ll hear more news soon!

Michelle and Kieran Mulroney are in talks to write the screenplay for the futuristic love story “Matched” for Disney.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot are producing.

The screenplay will be based on the novel of the same name by Ally Condie. Dutton Juvenile will publish the book on November 30.

The film will be set in a future society where people are told what to think, do and who to love. A young woman rejects a prepared romance and sets out to find her real love.

The Mulroneys wrote last year’s independent film “Paper Man,” that starred Jeff Daniels and Ryan Reynolds. They are currently working on the script for Warner Bros.’s sequel to “Sherlock Holmes.”

Disney and Offspring Entertainment have formed a love connection over Ally Condie’s upcoming young adult novel “Matched.”

The Mouse House fended off Paramount in a bidding war to pick up the film rights to the soon-to-be-published book for the shingle, run by Adam Shankman and Jennifer Gibgot, to produce.

Penguin’s Dutton division will begin rolling out the first installment of the three-title futuristic fable to bookstores on Nov. 30.

The world revolves around a society that dictates what individuals read, watch and believe, and who they are partnered with during a Matching Ceremony that takes place on their 18th birthday.

Offspring is starting to go out to scribes to tackle the adaptation.

The project, with its love triangle and young characters, is being described as yet another potential “Twilight” for Disney.
